Our expert speakers at GEOTEX Manchester 2020

Expert speakers from the ground and environmental engineering sector will present new solutions and innovative technology on civils related topics, plus you can quiz our team of specialists during the lunch and coffee breaks – reserve your seat now.

Keynote Speaker:
European Engineer Dr Stephen Thomas
OGI Groundwater Specialists

Specialist Subject: Innovative Techniques of Groundwater Engineering & Control to Increase Ground Strength and Stabilise Steep Slopes.

Significant cost, time and environmental benefits can be achieved by lowering the pore-water pressure in soft saturated unstable ground prior to excavation. The resulting increase in effective stress will result in increased shear strengths and results in the ability to have steeper embankment slopes.

The presentation includes a series of detailed case studies from projects in the UK that demonstrate how innovative techniques of Groundwater Engineering & Control, combined with other ground stabilisation products, can provide safe and practical solutions to earth work projects.

The theory behind the techniques will also be presented, as will other potential applications for future projects.

Stephen has been a UK Chartered Engineer since 1992 and is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE), a Member of the Institution of Water and Environmental Management (MCIWEM), and is a European Engineer (Eur Ing), and in 2014 he was successful in achieving qualification as a UK Registered Ground Engineering Adviser which is the highest grade in the Register of Ground Engineering Professionals (RoGEP).

GEOTEX opens for registration from 8.15am

09:00 Chairmans Introduction

09:05 Concrete Canvas
New Technology – Concrete Canvas (CC) is a flexible, concrete impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, water proof and fire resistant concrete layer. Learn how this innovative material is being used as a rapid alternative to conventional concrete in ditch lining, slope protection, bund lining, gabion reinforcement, concrete remediation, culvert lining and more.

09:30 Platipus Anchors
Geotechnical Design using Percussion Driven Earth Anchors (PDEA®)” Platipus will cover the prediction of load theory and testing and how it relates to conceptual proposals and indemnified designs. This will be presented through specific case studies encompassing erosion control, slope stabilisation, retaining walls, sheet piling and drainage applications.
